It’s the second week of 2024, and I already have a feeling that this year will demand a lot from us. That’s why I’m bringing gifts to your inbox, to hopefully ease the transition into what I hope will be a year of discovering whatever helps you feel more alive.
This Saturday, January 13, I’m hosting a free, live online event with THE SKIN DEEP, an Emmy award-winning experience design studio and creator of {THE AND} documentary, video series, and card games. Their work explores human emotion, intimacy and connection in relationships. You may have seen these extraordinary films before, two people exploring the depths of their relationship in a way that often gets lost in our fast-moving, tech-infused culture. I witnessed {THE AND} live and in-person at UNFINISHED festival last year, and it stretched my mind, body, and soul with a formidable elasticity I had long-forgotten.
The event will run for an hour and feature Topaz Adizes, founder of THE SKIN DEEP, alongside author and poet Sonya Renee Taylor, Bosco from spoken word duo GRIOT and some of the long-time fan favorites from {THE AND}, Ben and Sidra and Andrew and Keisha. Join us this Saturday, January 13, as we celebrate the ten-year anniversary of {THE AND} and the new book, 12 Questions for Love. 12pm PT / 3pm ET. Register here.
And another gift: today, I published a video interview with AI Researcher, Dr. Aekta Shah. In this interview, we explore the power dynamics behind the creation of artificial intelligence, the struggles and moral dilemmas of the modern tech worker, and what it means to participate and “opt in” to a more responsible way of creating and engaging with AI.
Maybe that’s what being alive means, to participate and opt in to this wild experience of being human, despite and because of everything.
If you enjoy these gifts and want to further support my work as a writer and creator in the age of AI, consider subscribing, upgrading to a paid subscription, or sharing Tech Without Losing Your Soul with your friends and colleagues. <3
